Demodara

Demodara is one of Sri Lanka's most recognisable hill-country spots, home to the Nine Arch Bridge, a 1921 stone viaduct curving through the tea estates, and the engineering curiosity of the Demodara railway loop, where the station sits directly above the tunnel the line passes through. The village itself is small, green and quiet, a few kilometres from Ella town. Those landmarks are the investment story. Few rural Sri Lankan villages have such reliable tourist footfall, which makes well-located guesthouses genuinely viable. The Uva Halpewatte tea factory, Little Adam's Peak and Ravana Falls round out the visitor draw, while Ella's cafes and services are a short ride away. The numbers favour patient lifestyle investors. Land prices have climbed sharply in nominal terms, and guesthouses can earn solid gross yields, but the realities temper the picture: no condo stock means leasehold-only for foreigners, liquidity is thin, demand is tourism- and season-dependent, and the area's value leans heavily on one famous bridge.
