Puerto Madero

Puerto Madero is the newest of Buenos Aires’ barrios, built almost entirely from scratch on what were once derelict shipping docks. Restored brick warehouses (the diques) now sit beneath a skyline of 30-to-50-storey glass residential towers, with the sculptural Puente de la Mujer footbridge and uninterrupted Río de la Plata views. It is an orderly, manicured enclave that feels deliberately apart from the rest of the city. The lifestyle is upscale and convenience-driven: shared waterfront walking and cycling paths, a dense run of premium dining and five-star hotels, and the 350-hectare Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur, the city’s largest green space, on its eastern edge. For investors it is Buenos Aires’ trophy market: the highest prices per square metre in the city, drawing affluent professionals and international buyers seeking a secure, dollarised, low-maintenance hold. The trade-off is yield, prestige pricing runs ahead of rents, so the appeal is capital preservation in hard currency and the city’s strongest security profile, not high cash income.
